I caught this article at the Daily Herald and noticed how Sears donated $10,000 worth of Craftsman Tools to help the U.S. military maintain some of their vehicles during the beginnings of the Iraqi war.

I'm surprised that the United States couldn't come up with their own tools for their troops. Either way, it's an awesome PR move for Sears by getting their brand name out there, even if the media results are five years later. While the story has a more local focus, I can see that this is a big deal for the Craftsman tools brand name.

The article also goes into detail about Sears’ military ties, plus how the company continues to give health benefits to the families of their military veteran employees - something the company is not required to do:

With 540 active reservists, Sears pays the difference between an employee's military pay and their pay at Sears. It also allows them to continue all their benefits for 60 months from the time of deployment.

Thinking about all of those Craftsman tools in Iraq - I wonder if the military could cash in on the lifetime warranty if any of their outposts were bombed out? Some say that if you can see Craftsman on the tool, then the warranty is valid. However, I’ll bet the shipping and handling to get replacement Craftsman tools out there would make it more of a hassle than it’s worth.
